turbos often wear because of dirty oil. this transit turbo was showing score marks on the bearings when it came in.

carbon in the oil through lack of servicing is forced between the bearing sleave and its bearing causing score lines.

a worn bearing will cause blades to ‘wobble’ as they spin up and so be out of balance , the oil then seeps past the oil seals and burn off in the exhaust system.

this will show as excessive smoke out of the exhaust.
